Round 2
Graeme goes into the weekend after following up his opening 66 with a disappointing 76 to drop down the field.

Round 1
“I love the island here, such a great event”, said Graeme McDowell, who won here in 2013 and hasn’t missed it since. He shot an opening-round 66 this time around, after which he said, “A phenomenal golf course where people are just happy to see you.”

Graeme has struggled with back spasms for the past two weeks, but he was back to his best at a favourite stomping ground yesterday, firing five birdies in a 66 after getting some inspiration watching the Masters.

“It’s always great to watch the best players in the world and realise that you were there once, and you can be back there again,” McDowell said, adding he’d love “Rory’s driving, Tiger’s mind and Shane’s chipping”.

“I feel like I’ve got some renewed energy the last few months and want to obviously continue that momentum, continue playing well. This is always a fun golf course and a challenge I enjoy.”

Valero Texas Open

Result

Graeme saw his tournament come to a premature end after missing the cut at the Valero Texas Open, he shot rounds of 74 and 75 to bow out on +5.

Round 2
Graeme, who started on the 10th tee, bogeyed his second hole but got the shot back at the 14th to leave him on even par heading onto the front nine.

He started that with a bogey before a double bogey at the fourth sent him tumbling down the leaderboard.

The Portrush man birdied the eighth but a closing bogey saw him end the tournament on three over.

Round 1
It was a rough opening day for Graeme after a two-over 74. The former US Open Champion – who strained his back at last week’s Corales Puntacana Championship – opened with a birdie at the par-five second but couldn’t capitalise on that momentum and saw bogeys fall at the fifth, seventh, ninth and 15th, although he did recover a late shot at the par-five 18th.
